Dear Friend,
George Curio had tremendous vision, creativity and patriotism! It was George Curio, a WWII B-24 nose gunner and life-long community leader, who inspired the City of Millville and the Millville Army Air Field Museum to create a mural celebrating Millvilles unique aviation history as Americas First Defense Airport and honoring fallen pilots. George was tenacious in his effort researching Millvilles WWII aviation history, choosing the best muralist to design and paint a fine art mural, and meeting with city officials to find and secure the best location.
In April 1998, Millvilles Wall of Remembrance Mural was dedicated and it has stood steadfast, three stories high on the north wall of Millville City Hall, for ten years. Thanks to George Curio, Millville celebrates its heritage and takes pride in sharing it with others. George Curio passed away in October 2002, but for many of us, George lives on
in spirit and through his great gift of the Millville Wall of Remembrance. Now it is time to restore this great mural and continue Georges legacy.
Back in 1997, when the mural was just a glimmer in Georges eye, many of you friends and family stood behind the vision. At that time donations came in totalling nearly $30,000, making the mural a reality. Now, we are looking to some of the same friends and family, along with support from individuals and businesses in the community, to help us refurbish the mural to give it another ten years of life!
Please help us with this effort. The Millville Army Air Field Museum has commissioned the original mural artist, Sam Donovan, to refurbish the mural beginning in April 2008. The project will cost approximately $10,000. Any amount raised over $10,000 will be placed in a reserve account for future restoration. Your donation will help us honor George Curio and all veterans while continuing to celebrate Millvilles important aviation history. We ask you to please help us again with this important project. As George reminded us, The U.S. Army Air Corps never turned back! Together we will reach our target!
Make your tax-deductible donation payable to the MAAFM Mural Fund and mail it to
